Alexis started her landscape design practice in 2001 and has since designed a variety of residential and commercial projects around the Bay Area. She enjoys working on projects that reflect a contemporary design and have a clean, modern aesthetic. Her interest in planting design has focused on plants that are better suited to dry climates and low maintenance.
Before starting on her own Alexis worked for other firms including Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture. She serves on the board of the Cultural Landscape Foundation and on the West Coast Council of the Garden Conservancy. She and her husband, Daniel Donahoe, produce Teira Wines and sustainably farm 100 acres of vineyards in Sonoma County that have been in her family for 40 years. On several occasions, Alexis has helped San Francisco neighborhood groups begin the process of organizing local support for the improvement and redesign of their neighborhood parks.
Alexis received her Masters of Landscape Architecture and Historic Preservation Certificate from the University of Virginia in 1998 where she earned the highest honors: the ASLA student Award of Honor and the UVA Stanley Abbott Scholarship for Landscape Architecture. During graduate school Alexis interned for Peter Walker Partners and the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy.
Alexis works closely with landscape contractors and nurseries to build her projects. Many of her projects are built with the skilled help of Octavio Herrera and his reliable crew.
